Sabyasachi and Manish spin magic at Delhi Couture Week

Sabyasachi and Manish: Rockstars at Delhi Couture Week 2012

Little wonder why Mumbai designers Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra skipped two seasons in Mumbai and headed to Delhi to showcase their collections. Simple to guess, their buyers are in plenty in the capital city and the Delhiwalas love the two.
At the PCJ Delhi Couture Week (7-12 Aug, 2012), presented by FDCI, Sunil Sethi, the president of FDCI gave the very best slots to Manish and Sabyasachi.

While Manish provided the Saturday Night Fever with the gorgeous Katrina Kaif as his showstopper, Sabyasachi Mukherjee presented the Grand Finale on Sunday with Sridevi (my fave heroine)as his special guest. On both days, the buyer line-up was different and exclusive. The buzz was tremendous and anticipation was heavy in the air.

Manish Malhotra: Using a lot of zardosi and Kashmiri embroidery, sheer backs were the highlights of the collection. Model-actor (Filmfare awardee for film Force) Vidyut Jammwal opened the show amidst hoots and whistles. As the models strutted in sporting gorgeous gulabi sarees, lehengas and a dupatta that was let loose to trail, Ek Tha Tiger actress Katrina Kaif marched in as audiences gaped. Showbiz king, Manish Malhotra took a bow and Delhi couldn't help discussing the show details for days.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee: 'New Moon' inspired by Sabya's travelogues

Sabyasanchi’s travels around the world have culminated in his 2012 couture collection. Five cities bring five flavours, the strait jacket discipline of New York, the classic nostalgia of the British Raj in Kolkata, the subversive decadence of Berlin, the incredible romance of Paris and the bohemian flair of Barcelona all come together to create a collection, that is very global yet very Indian. Russian needle point, boutis from Provence, zardozi from Agra, Kantha from Bangladesh, block printing from Bengal and Rajasthan, intricately embroidered Pashmina from Kashmir, chints from the United Kingdom and toile de joy from France, co-existed with rhinestone, baubles, bows and the finest quality of needle craft to create a collection.

Accessories for the collection are from Sabyasachi’s new edgy label – Sabyasachi by Sabyasachi, which debuted at Sotheby’s London.

Manish Malhotra is undeniably the king of showbiz. His designs are any bride's dream. Sabyasachi Mukherjee has finesse in detailing. But the 'specs' on his models are a bit of dampener, sometimes. His store in Colaba, Mumbai is worth a visit. His jewellery is out-of-the-world. Even Oprah Winfrey vouched for that.
