Delhi designers to do Lakme Grand Finale (for the fourth time in a row)
Neither Rohit Bal, nor Aki Narula, it’s Delhi-based designer sisters — Gauri and Nainika, who’ve been chosen as the Lakme Grand Finale designers this March
Putting all speculation about grand finale names to rest, we break the ice — designer duo Gauri and Nainika, have been selected as the Lakme Grand Finale designers for LFW Summer/Resort 2011, and will showcase the ‘Fantasy’ collection on March 15.
Rumours were rife in the fashion circles that Rohit Bal, who’s now on the LFW advisory panel or Aki Narula, who’s mentoring the GenNext, will be taking on the mantle of finale designer this season. But it’s Delhi-based designer sisters this time around. Incidentally, it’s for the ‘fourth time’ in a row that Delhi names have been chosen to rock the Mumbai finale scene.
All excited to present the ‘Fantasy’ collection, the sisters are letting their imaginations soar high. “Fantasy holds no boundaries. That’s the beauty of our creations, interwoven with myriad colours, that are truly unbeatable.” Known for their cocktail wear, the sister duo are also the youngest designers to showcase as the grand finale designers in Mumbai.
But did the offer fall into their lap recently? Nainika clears the air with much authority, “Our association began with the creation of this new theme last year.” Talking about the collection, she added, “As young girls, we grew on fairy tales. And so, this collection is an exploration into the feminine and dreamy influences that drive the many moods of all women. With its fresh, vibrant colours of nature, the summer palette provides that element of richness and a touch of idyllic. We hope that our designs will unfurl a whole new world of sparkling fantasies for women.”
Girl with the blue scarf says: Well, it wouldn’t be surprising if fashionistas feel like Alice in Wonderland when Gauri and Nainika’s models take centre stage on the ramp at the finale.
LFW Summer/ Resort 2011 will roll from March 11-15, 2011.
