Meet Malini — the gypsy queen

Delhi-based designer Malini Ramani — Art of Living enthusiast and a dark chocolate fanatic — is super-excited to become the Grand Finale designer for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010, this September

The fashion week fever is hotting up in the city. Model auditions for fresh ramp faces are done with and now comes the big news — designer Malini Ramani will present the grand finale at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010 (from September 17-21).
Sure, this is a hat-trick for Delhi designers to have presented the grand finale in Mumbai for three seasons in a row but LFW never maintained a Delhi-Mumbai barrier, anyway. I spoke to Malini about her plans on the Mumbai ramp.
“The rains in Mumbai are beautiful, of course, only while I am indoors working on the ‘Gypsy collection’ for the winter palette,” revealed this svelte designer who’d pass off as a ramp model herself. “Now, who doesn’t want to look cool and glamorous while they are touring, she asks. And so, the colours and cuts I am using are truly very sexy.” In the same note, she revealed, “I’ve gained inspiration from my stimulating travels, right from the beaches of Goa to the shores of Bali, I play with the colours of Rajasthan by adding a dash of international sophistication. The finale this time will celebrate this trail.”
Joining her, N Rajaram, Vice President, Lakmé says, “Lakmé through the years has constantly evolved to keep pace with the effervescent, ever-changing Indian woman. It has presented her an exciting and everlasting beauty experience, through its exclusive range of products. Malini Ramani is the perfect choice for the grand finale. Just like the brand, she has created a collection suited for the modern Indian woman.” To that, Malini excitedly adds, “I can’t wait to see my name on the cosmetics range.”
Getting set to take a ride on the Worli Sealink, she said, “I feel I am journeying beyond my familiar space. Many years ago, I used to find my mom Bina’s closet full of old-fashioned outfits. But today, those outfits seem absolutely gorgeous to me. My evolving sense of style is taking me by a surprise as well.” Mumbai holds a soft place in her heart because its here than she pursued the Art of Living course. This designer had earlier presented the grand finale in 2005 with Suneet Verma in this city. Welcome back, gypsy queen.

Allah tero naam. Ishwar tero naam at Jodhpur RIFF changed my perspective.... Indian Carnatic music maestro TM Krishna collaborates with transwomen singers at the Jodhpur RIFF 2017 This was my very first visit to Jodhpur and I coincided it with an attempt to catch the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) whose chief patron is Marwar's royalty Gaj Singh II. One of the renditions by Carnatic music maestro TM Krishna (TMK - as he is lovingly called) changed my life's perspective so much so that this feeling is here to stay and share. TMK sang a very popular song called 'Allah Tero Naam. Ishwar Tero Naam...' with a 'specific reason' as he perched effortlessly at the break of dawn at  Jaswant Thada near Mehrangarh Fort. With him were the absolute delights of the season — The  Jogappa singers.
