Bold and beautiful

Fashion victims no more, Mumbai’s stylistas are tuning in to their personalities and designers are loving this refreshing change

A lady in her 40s sporting a striking deep backless LBD, her gal pals go for sexy off-shoulder numbers and the male brigade opt for well-tailored double-breasted coat with more than just a glimpse of toned chest. Yes, this is the style sense of Mumbaiites in the social circles currently. And no, these aren’t filmy people.
Quite a depiction of the changing times in this city, no longer are people settling in for frivolous imported trends that don’t suit their individual tastes. Going right ahead with a new look which pleases their sensibility, the aam Mumbaiite today is designers’ refreshing delight.
Says Manish Malhotra, “Of course, Mumbaiites are getting bolder with their dress sense. And thank God for this.”
Unlike cities like Delhi where weather demands a change in wardrobes, Mumbai does not experience a stark change in the temperatures. Quite naturally, garments are often used round-the-year with slight alteration in fabrics and hemlines, and this wasn’t much of a challenge for the design fraternity.
Now, it’s attitude which is calling the shots here, and fitness consciousness has much to do with this too. Age posing no limitations, even revealing, bold clothes look great on fit bods. “Also, now some fashion-forward people love to stand out from the rest,” added Gayatri Khanna.
Rocky S feels that this change in taste has been happening over some time now. “Mumbaiites have always the loved the fact that they can experiment without bothering much about being judged. As designers we can see more and more people open to taking risks. It’s so refreshing,”he claimed.

Girl with the blue scarf says: Moving away from being a fashion victim and oozing with fitness appeal, people in this city are willing to be adventurous. However, it’s most important to have the confidence to carry off a look instead of just following others. What do you say?

this trend is very evident in the bridal corutre catagory as well as clients are willing to experiment with non traditonal colors and color pallette like yellow and mid night blue and purple have established their private colonies amongst the bridal colors like reds maroons and gold!!!

While it's nice to see women and men confidently sporting what they like best, it's rather odd to see many of them suantering into a restobar in awkward revealing ensembles.
