Models make loads of money during IPL Fashion shows

It’s the first quarter of the year and Indian models are truly enjoying a treat right now, in terms of good work and great monies. The reason being that the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010, which has recently concluded happened a month prior to its usual schedule (in March instead of April). And due to this shift, it comfortably made way for Wills India Fashion Week Autmn/Winter 2010, which is all set to kickstart from March 24. But to most models, fashion weeks are usual business. What came as an icing to this format are the Indian Premier League matches in India. With 55 fashion shows organised by Mehr Jesia Rampal (yeah, that's actor Arju Rampal's wife and former supermodel), which are already underway at different locations of the matches, models walking for fashion shows there are truly in big demand.
Take a look at the statistics. Consider this: The highest amount charged by an Indian model is Rs 50,000 and it is rumoured that model Jesse Randhawa charges that amount. However, an established model usually charges between Rs 15 to 30,000 for a show. During a fashion week, models offer discounted rates. Incidentally, the IPL fashion shows team not only offered good money but also bulk fashion show dates within a span of 30-45 days. Thus, a model would easily make close to 7 to 9 Lakhs straight within a span of 45 days, thanks to the league matches. And so, obviously, top models and established faces are super-excited about this whole deal.
Said Simran Kaur Mundi, “I walked for the Lakme Fashion Week but had to opt out of WIFW because IPL fashion show dates were clashing. I opted for the League shows because this was a good way to combine fashion with sports and I wanted to test the waters by being a part of it myself. Not only is the money good, I am also able to take rest during the day since the fashion show starts by 9.30 pm or 10 pm after the matches get over. Post the show, we have dinner and enjoy partying. I also met cricketer Yuvraj Singh, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and also Shane Warne there. Slowly, my cricket knowledge is improving and that's due to the fashion shows. It’s great fun, you know!”
Nethra Raghuraman, who walked for the Lakme Fashion Week recently and is now opting to go for WIFW instead of the Premier League matches, says, “This has been a good time for most models. The upcoming models especially are able to make the most of this opportunity. At least, now there is a choice due to show options.”
Alecia Raut, however, is quite enjoying her frequent trips across multiple cities in India. “I was in Bengaluru recently (it sounds like Kangaroo) and am walking the ramp for the IPL shows. The schedule is comfortable so we get to rest, shop, go to the gym and then by the night get on the ramp. Money is obviously good since we are offered bulk shows. And, this is an encouraging trend for most Indian models.” On the same note, model Sonalli Sehgall adds, “Now that commercials, League matches and films are opening doors for us, models truly couldn’t have had it any better than this.”

Incidentally, after the fashion shows, a nice interactive party follows with good food and wine doing the rounds. This is being handled by Mehr's hubby, Arjun Rampal.
