Not All Those Who Wander are Lost...

  • Are you lost? Go Find Yourself!

  • Travelling solo can be a boon for you, especially, if you are an Indian woman!

In Landour, Mussoorie, a trash can summed up life for me :)

Just a mere suggestion of a holiday brightens up my eyes, mind and soul. And when someone says 'paid holidays', the magical feeling of being the 'Chosen One' creates this pleasurable havoc in the insides. The feeling is beautiful. It gets further manifested when the travel actually begins.

  1. THE NAGA BUG TOUCH: That sense of escapism to remain a nobody and commit some innocent crimes, tickles my funny bone. My trip to Nagaland (in India) was my maiden trip to the North-East of India. I am rather embarrassed to say that as it should have got done a while ago. However, as I expected, it's truly the Naga people who are the true gems of the place. Their simple lifestyle, resilient work ethics and their polite attitude. Add with it a huge waves of music and dance, in traditional finery was revelatory. A trip to the BUG MARKET or Keeda Bazaar in Kohima got my eyes to pop. Being a vegetarian, it took some deep breaths to unnerve myself just as the live worms sheepishly crawled inside the plastic bowls in the market area. Fresh eels, snails, silk worms moved up and down and the vendor happily weighed them by the kilo. A way of life for them and a big lesson for me.

  2. MAURITIAN SINGLE HONEYMOON: On the speed boats of Mauritius, the young boatman asked where my man was and I made a single face (you can guess if it was happy or not). People around me were in loving company and I did feel the need of a handsome match along.. however, soon enough the salty wind blew that chapstick state-of-mind away. I was the happy solo chick sporting a bikini and ready to walk on the ocean floor. While others got their couple pictures clicked, I was happy to smile solo. A momentous treat for a women, especially an Indian one (every desi girl will nod).

    3. THE IRISH NEW YEAR: This occasion shall remain etched in the mind for a long time (naughtily smiling as I write). Pub hopping, great street music, a celebrity-like lamp holding walk to all popular spots leading to a big line-up with artistes and Irish headlining performers, the News Year's eve in Dublin was awe-inspiring and very youthful. Again, most attendees were couples and that singled some like me out from the crowd. But then solo status is a big attraction on New Year's eve, isn't it! I shall leave the rest for some cheery guzzle-laced giggly guesswork.
GIRL WITH THE BLUE SCARF says: Solo touring stories are increasingly becoming more and more endearing to me. While it makes me much more confident to take on the world, something inside me makes me celebrate for being beyond the usual click. Agree?

Nice work you have got. Get paid to travel and write about it: too good.

Wow! I'd love to have one too...
